Matt F. Trotta Joins Carscallen LLP as Counsel

Carscallen LLP is pleased to announce Matt F. Trotta has joined the firm as Counsel. Matt primarily practices in the areas of Wills, Trusts, Estates and Estate Litigation and Tax Law. He also practices in the areas of Corporate Governance and Charities and Not-For-Profit Organizations. Matt was called to the Alberta bar in 2013, and previously worked as an associate at a large, national law firm in Canada and regional firms in Alberta.

Matt earned his joint LL.B./J.D. at the University of Windsor and University of Detroit Mercy. In 2017, he completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course Parts I, II, and III. Prior to law school, Matt completed his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Calgary.

Matt has a broad estate, trust, and tax law practice, with a focus on high net worth and ultra-high net worth families, blended families, complex distributions, residency issues, and assets in multiple jurisdictions. His practice primarily consists of Estate Planning and Private Client Services; Taxation of Trusts and Estates; Estate and Trust Administration; and Business Succession and Post-Mortem Tax Planning.

Matt is an active member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Bar Association, the Estate Planning Council of Calgary, and the Calgary Bar Association. He is also actively involved with presenting and publishing in the areas of tax and estates law, and has been an author and presenter with the Estate Planning Council of Calgary, the Canadian Bar Association, and Canadian Lawyer Magazine, amongst others.

With Matt’s addition to the firm, Carscallen LLP adds to its depth of experience in the Tax Law and Wills, Trusts, Estates and Estate Litigation Groups.
