Litgation Assistant Wills and Estates

Carscallen is looking for a litigation assistant to join our litigation department.

Job Duties

  • Preparing pleadings, correspondence, submissions and any document related to the conduct of legal proceedings
  • Organizing, labelling and categorizing records for use in litigation
  • Preparing bills, letters for billing, tracking accounts receivable and all other non-accounting functions associated with billing using accounting software
  • Entering and tracking diarizations (Limitations, deadlines under Rules of Court, deadlines under Litigation plans or similar deadlines)
  • Other daily miscellaneous tasks such as booking Court reporters and boardrooms;seeing to filing Court documents; receiving payments and related tasks
  • Preparing retainer letters and coordinating with clients on opening files

Qualifications

  • Must have 10+ years working experience in a law firm
  • Must have a 2-year Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized College or Institution
  • Experience with litigation documents is preferred
  • Attention to detail and strong proof-reading skills are expected
  • The ability to access government websites and pull common searches
  • Strong communication skills that will foster close working relationships with the principal and auxiliary client contacts
  • Experience with Wills and Estates Litigation matters would be an asset
  • Have a Commissioner for Oaths certificate.
  • The ability to search in APPRES would be an asset.
